Edu Science 450x Starter Microscope Review
May 10, 2013 by
I had a coupon and the "birthday bucks" from ToysRUs, so instead of letting it go to waste as I sometimes do, I decided to make a quick detour to ToysRUs yesterday. I was kids free for a couple of hours, so there was no one there to tug on my clothes and whine that they're tired of hungry or "want to go hommmmmmmeeeeee". My "quick stop" ended up being more like 45 minutes.
I'm always on a hunt for educational toys that will pique my kids interest, my favorite aisle is the one with the Science related toys, globes, etc. They have enough toy cars, dinosaurs and actions figures and those are really boring to me, so I aimed for something I can play with too, lol. Most people already know, I went to school and have my degrees in Forensic Science and Computer Forensics. Since I'm a stay at home mom, I have to live vicariously through TV shows and sometimes wish I was a actress on Law and Order SVU. Since that probably won't ever happen, I decided to buy the play microscope, and some other things to be discussed in another review. When I saw the price, I did a little happy dance in the aisle because the microscope was on sale and I already like the brand! I know that moment was caught on the ToysRUs camera, but I don't care! I couldn't wait to take it home and show my children my their new toy!
When I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised. The microscope works really well and although it comes with two prepared slides, it also comes with a extra blank slides so my kids were excited to look for other things around the house and outside. It also comes with:
- a tweezer
- a stirring rod
- a petri dish
- magnifying glass
- 12 labels
- 12 slide covers
- 2 specimen vials
- and instructions

This microscope really brought back memories. What I really like about it, besides the price of course, is the fact that it's so realistic. There are three magnification levels and its easy for young children to rotate and position slides which make them WANT to play with it. I've been in the store with my children before and tried to get them to choose this, and they were not interested. But, by me bringing it home today and just setting it up for them, it didn't take much for them to appreciate it. Now that I know they're interested in science I will be purchasing more science related products.
For a starter microscope, I give this 5 stars!
