Jiva Organics Toor Dal (Split Pigeon Peas) Review #JivaOrganic
February 21, 2015 by
Usually when I make soup, I soak yellow split peas overnight so it can cook faster. Now that I have a pressure cooker / slow cooker, I started making soup using this method instead of stove top. Yellow split peas and split pigeon peas are two different things, but I don't think the taste will be much different, so I'm using my usual method for soup for "testing" the Jiva Organics - Organic Toor Dal.
Disclaimer: The above review is my own honest opinion. I would NEVER recommend a product I did not try, and do not believe in. ~ Ronda.
- It is available in a 2 lb bag
- No artificial flavors, pesticides or chemicals
- Available on Amazon.com for $9.99
The price is a bit higher than what I usually pay for similar items, but this is organic so that is to be expected.
What I Liked:
The two lb bag will last a long time. When it comes to the soup I made, Toor Dal has a bit of a nutty taste (really mild) compared to yellow split peas. It tastes delicious and makes a nice thick broth, so I decided to try it with rice and cabbage. This was the first time I put "soup" on top of rice, but seeing how thick the broth for the soup was, I was interested in trying something new. It was well worth it and since I have a lot, it should be able to last a few days, and eaten in a variety of ways.
