Soulphisticated Ladies Season 1 (Episodes 1-4) Review
January 24, 2014 by

I enjoy reading when I have free time and sharing my opinion. So it should come as no surprise that I welcome opportunities to review books, especially when they have a juicy, adult plot!

Spoiler alert...this is how the story begins:

"'He loves the way I ride it,’ was blaring from the club's speakers.
Jacinta stood on the side of the stage watching the stripper gyrate and concentrate on moving her butt cheeks singularly back and forth until several men eagerly threw bills on the stage."

Woah! Now, for my readers who have an issue with "adult" themed stories, this is not the review for you, and you can forget about this book. It has explicit language and events that can make a man blush! For readers who enjoy a grown tale and details to the point where you can imagine yourself in the character's shoes, feel free to continue!

Pros: This story is like reading the scenes from a television show. Detail oriented and engaging. This would be a good choice for a ladies book club because, it's easy to find a character you can relate to or one who reminds you of someone you know! We all know someone:

  • who is honest and expresses care with everyone but herself. She (or maybe 'he') worries about the well being of those around her but should put herself first and leave an abusive and mentally draining situation.
  • who lies, cheats and/or sleeps her way to the top and never seems to suffer a consequence...until. Then we're like, "Damn! I'm so glad someone saw her for who she is!"
  • who seems to be in the perfect relationship. The kind of love everyone admires because the two seem to be a match made in Heaven, but one of the two are not who they appear to be.
  • who has friends who have their own drama, but dive head first into solving your problems. We should all be so lucky, to have friends who care so much about us, they become detectives.

There's so much more, but I don't want to give too much away. Just note, with back stabbing and drama at home or work, this is juicy!

Cons: Grammatical errors here and there.

Thoughts: I hate reading e-books, so when I realized I'd be reading this story from my phone I wasn't too happy. But, thank God for technology I ended up being able to read it from my television. It was so full of drama that I ended up reading all 344 pages in one day. It also wasted no time getting to the "OMG moments". It's fast paced, without a dull moment. Because of this book I am seriously considering starting a book club. It has everything I want and need to keep my attention: Adult talk, circumstances, death and racy scenes, I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster. I felt love, then angry, hurt and a desire for revenge. It's definitely a conversation starter! I want more...
