Woolzies Eco-Friendly Wool Dryer Balls Review
August 1, 2013 by
Wool makes me itch! Even the thought of wool near my clothes makes me itch, but after reading the product description and seeing that the wool balls are hypoallergenic and safe even for people with wool sensitivities", I figured, what the heck? I'll try them!
I do 4 to 6 loads of laundry each week. I don't use dryer sheets often because the brand of detergent I use smells great on its own and my clothes come out soft either way, but there were a few pluses I read when I signed up for the opportunity to experience and review the Woolzies Eco-Friendly Wool Dryer Balls.
Here's what the description says (what caught my attention is in bold):
- Reduces drying time by 25%
- 100% safe for people with wool sensitivities
- Guaranteed to last for 1,000 loads
- 100% pure New Zealand wool
Before trying them
As of now, my only complaint with doing laundry aside from having to fold clothes is the length of time it takes to dry. A full load (with the dryer 3/4 full) usually dries in 45 minutes because after the spin cycle in the washing machine, most of the water has been removed. But, considering the fact that I do a lot of laundry weekly, every minute counts and I would love to see how much time these dryer balls save me.
My first experience (August 4, 2013)
After our weekend trip in Orlando, the first thing I needed to do was wash our dirty clothes. This was a smaller load than usual. This load would usually take about 30 minutes to dry because it only includes a few bottoms, towels and tops (swim suits and delicate materials are hung to dry). Since the woolzies box said they generally cut 25% of drying time, I decided to put it to dry for 25 minutes, instead of the usual 30 to see if it would really cut drying time. Unfortunately my initial experience with this product didn't work out as expected. I don't feel a difference in the softness of the clothes and after drying for 25 minutes, I had to put the clothes to dry for a few more minutes because the waist parts of jeans were still damp.
August 11, 2013 Update
I have had a few opportunities to use the Woolzies balls. After further review I found that it has in fact shortened the amount of time it takes for my clothes (especially heavy items) to dry, so that's a definite plus. Helping me decrease the amount of time I have to use the dryer will help us increase the amount of savings we will have on our energy bill. So I like this! The only issue is there was static, usually I don't notice any static.
I will continue to use the dryer balls! After a few months I will update this post again and let you all know if there has been a noticeable change in our energy bill!
