Checking out my garden this afternoon, I did my usually walk around on the patio smiling at the veggies plants and flowers that are growing well and speaking to them about the weather, their sexy leaves, and nice legs (stems) because I heard you're supposed to talk to plants. Don't judge me! Just after I open the screen door to speak to the plants in the actual ground I looked up at the window that's right above the flowers and saw a bunch of foreign brown stuff. WTF is that?!?!?...That wasn't there yesterday!
At first, I thought they were baby slugs, because they're shaped funny. But then I thought to myself, the last time I saw slugs was when I lived in NY. I haven't seen any residential slugs in FL. Then I saw two lizards standing guard nearby, so I thought maybe it's lizard babies since I never saw a lizard fetus. Well lizards freak me out, so I slowly moved back into the patio because it's safe there. I can't stand lizards, ughhh!
I went inside and grabbed my camera so I can get a closer view, but since the patio is cover by mesh, the pictures are not as clear. So I came to the computer to do a Google search for the larvae or eggs of any kind of animal I've ever seen in the backyard that could reach that window. Nothing matched. So I started to think, maybe its poop? It's too big to be lizard poop, so what else could reach that window? Umm, snakes can, birds and squirrels.
I've never seen a bird on that window sill, but I have been pooped on by birds (my luck has changed!) so I knew that wasn't it! After doing a search for squirrel droppings I saw included in one post was a comparison of squirrel poopie and roof rats. Well, I've never seen a mouse or rat by my house, but we are surrounded by bushes and there was once an incident that involved me accidentally grabbing a red rat snake while removing Christmas garland from my front door. Ughhh! The thought makes my skin crawl! Common sense tells me if there are rat snakes in the area, there must be rat hiding in the bushes. But, plllleeeeeease God don't let us have a roof rat issue!
I'm keeping hope alive, hoping it's a squirrel that left its mark. Meanwhile, I'll be looking for pest deterrents! I worked too hard on my garden to let some creature keep me from! What is that?
